The Telos of the First World War:
the end was contained within the beginning

The ending  of the First World War was contained within the beginning. What a bizarre idea that nations and generals were trying to "win" the war..

The more parsimonious assumption is that the telos was there...from the beginning. The rewriting of the history of this period can now beginning. It needs to begin, posing the question:

What did the Generals and nation-states of the First World War do to achieve the telos (their "achievement" is summarized below.

A telos (from the Greek τέλος for "end", "purpose", or "goal") is an end or purpose. It is the root of the term "teleology," roughly the study of purposiveness, or the study of objects with a view to their aims, purposes, or intentions.
