HITLER: "We may be inhumane, but if we rescue Germany, we have performed the greatest deed in the world."

TRUMP: "We may be inhumane, but if we make America great again, we have performed the greatest deed in the world."


Of course Hitler and Trump are not equivalent. But "in our hearts the dream remains the same"--as captured in the photo directly below. 

We dream of being "at one" with a flag-body or a body-politic--or a nation. 

The desire to FUSE with a one's nation--is the source of the psychopathology of history.

KILLING is performed in the name of rescuing the nation; making the nation great again. DYING IS performed in the name of rescuing the nation; making the nation great again.

At the core of the conundrum of nationalism is the fact that the good thing (the beloved object) and the bad thing (killing and dying) cannot be separated.
