Shared Fantasies Produce Psychotic Delusions
Richard Koenigsberg

Shared fantasies produce psychotic delusions that often are not recognized as psychopathology--when a members of a population share or buy into them.

Leaders put forth fantasies that come to be shared and to define or construct ordinary social reality. Thus, ordinary people who share or embrace these fantasies no longer appear psychotic.

The fantasies that define political ideas are contained within ordinary structures of culture--in symbolic constructs such as “the nation,” “protecting the nation,” “the enemy,” “rescuing the nation,” "defending the border," etc. Psychotic political fantasies come to  define--"normal" ideological and institutional structures.
