What a bizarre idea: that those who wage war act rationally and seek “gain.” The purpose of warfare is to produce massive loss, glorifying nations. In the name of nations, millions submit and die.

Warfare (and historians) glorifying those "leaders" who send millions to their death. Political leaders who generate mass-murder are well aware of the fact that historians will write about them (the Heisenberg principle).

Historians are the enablers (and victims) of those who lead nations to mass-murder.
