"A truly bold and provocative treatise."

Nationalism relocates one's self and body into a larger entity—the body politic. Because territory is imagined in corporeal terms, states seek to secure their borders—their orifices--from penetration.

Like human bodies, nations have boundaries delineating self from not self, defending against alien bodies seeking to penetrate and contaminate the body politic.

Immigrants may be conceived or experienced as invaders—breaking through porous boundaries, surreptitiously creeping through unprotected orifices.

If an immigrant has penetrated through the boundary of one's nation and exists within the body politic, the immigrant may be experienced as having a presence or existence within the body of the citizen: a malignant, parasitic internal object--threatening the life of the "host."
