The greatest philosopher of history is Bin Laden’s mentor—Abdullah Azzam—who has been called the “Lenin of international jihad." His philosophy is contained within the passage directly below (from “Martyrs: The Building Blocks of Nations).
War "writes its lines in blood." Reality changes--societies change--based on "blood sacrifices, invalids and pure innocent souls."
Francis Fukuyama authored The End of History. The title pointed to the end of the flow of blood. People said the author was "wrong." He became "wrong" only because some people could not bear the idea that history might come to an end. Among those was Azzam's mentor, Bin Laden, who renewed the bloodshed.
Azzam says that the blood of the martyrs must be accompanied by the ink of the scholars. In order for blood-flow to be significant, people must keep a record of those killed and wounded.
Vladimir Putin seeks to create history by generating an endless flow of blood. His purpose is to be "written up in the history books."
Everyone have fallen into Putin's trap by document his "glory:" his capacity to renew the flow of blood; to make certain that history does not end. The blood of the martyrs become the ink of the journalists.
Putin thus becomes a "world historic personality" (Hitler's characterization of himself). It's part of the fantasy: the "creation of history," that is, the endless flow of blood for some imaginary entity (called "the Ummah" or "Russia."
Keeping the blood flowing validates the fantasy that there is such a thing as "Allah" or "the Ummah" or a "nation" or "Russia." Blood sacrifice creates the nation, as Carolyn Marvin has said: the endless flow of blood: keeping the old game alive.
| Azzam: “History does not write its lines except with blood. Glory does not build its loft edifice except with skulls, Honour and respect cannot be established except on a foundation of cripples and corpses. Empires, distinguished peoples, states and societies cannot be established except with examples. Indeed, (one cannot) change reality, or change societies, without blood, sacrifices and invalids, without pure, innocent souls.” |
