Hitler: "Austria must return to the great German mother country.” Separation of history into Germany and Austria “does not seem conceivable.” The desire for political reunification: the “elemental cry of the German-Austrian people for union with the German mother country.”

"Ukraine must return to the Great Russian mother country." Same fantasy.

"Taiwan must return to the Great Chinese mother country." Same fantasy.

Warfare = enactment of unconscious (infantile) fantasies. 

Why the massive violence? Projection of the self into political units. FEAR OF SEPARATION.  Separation = death. Separation = becoming torn into two. Body mutilation. One becoming two. Kill Jews (the principle of separateness).

MARGARET MAHLER: the most important psychoanalytic thinker of the 20th Century. Symbiosis is not an "infantile phase of development." It's the most fundamental desire--shaping the entirety of existence; persisting forever. Thou shalt not ever be separate.
