Himmler informed his SS that everyone should be fully aware that "our lives do not belong to us, but to the Fuhrer and Reich." 

This statement applied both tp German soldiers and Jewish Holocaust victims: Their lives belonged to the Fuhrer and the Reich. One sacrificial victim had a positive valance; the other sacrificial victim has negative valence. Two sides of the same coin. If German soldier were dying on the field of battle,, Jews had to be dying in the death camps. Balancing out the scales of death.
