Because of the Internet. In a previous era of human existence, only relatively intelligent people were able to "have a say," express an opinion based on a considerable amount of knowledge and expertise.

 Now, everyone in the world is entitled to his or her opinion. To "have a say." Nonsense and stupidity and hostility are are the coin of the realm. One enters the media (verbal and visual) entering a world of chaos.

But the previous "opinion leaders" don't try to stem the tide. They are committed to "freedom of expression," and the more readers of their publications, the better.

This is not to say say that there are not large numbers of intelligent, thoughtful people in the public domain. But their fundamental job, it seems, is to counter the erroneous views put forth in the public domain.

So the coin of the realm is NONSENSE AND COUNTERNONSENSE. This is all you hear and see, day after day, babble, endless babble, droning, "thank you for having me on," nonsense and counter nonsense.
