Robert Lifton

In 1986, Robert Lifton’s Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide, showed that the biological phantasy
I had discovered lay at the heart of Nazism.
The medical community redefined its role, placing the health of the Volk above the well-being of individual patients. Dr Rudolph Ramm stated that the physician was to be concerned with the
health of the Volk even more than with individual disease

nd was to teach Germans to overcome the old individualistic principle of the "right to one's own body."

The central phantasy of Nazism was the idea of  the nation as an organism, a living creature to which Germans
had to devote themselves. Human beings were
cells of this gigantic organism, the German body politic.  This phantasy
led to the Holocaust.
