SOLDIERS AS SACRIFICIAL VICTIMS

The motto of the Nazi SS-man was “obedience unto death,” an expression crystallizing the essence of warfare: dying for an abstract entity: a nation or Allah or some other phantasy.  To be a soldier is to be SUCKERED INTO SUBMISSION AND DEATH.

Yet bizarre theories of "male aggression" arise as explanations of warfare. Theories that save the pride of men, pretending that they are aggressive warriors rather than men who have masochistically submitted.

Soldiers rarely reveal to the world that the army's promise to make them into men was a "big lie." The soldier hesitates to reveal what he experienced and knows: that the job assigned to him was to become a sacrificial victim when his nation asked him to.
