Hitler took the idea of the nation further and more seriously than it had ever before been taken. Hitler imagined Germany as if it were a real, concrete entity; an actual "substance of flesh and blood."

 Hitler experienced Germany as an actual body that contained an actual disease--that had to be removed if the nation was to survive. The cause of Germany's disease was Jewish bacterium or a virus or a parasite embedded within the German body. This grotesque phantasy of the nation as an actual body containing a life-threatening disease was the source of genocide and war.
