That societal entity in the name of which acts of collective violence are deemed moral & justifiable.

This entity might be called a "nation," or Allah. In each case, "the dream remains the same." The sacred object is considered more significant than the lives of individual human beings. 

This "pie in the sky" is imagined to transcend concrete existence, structuring and defining the course of "history."
