Dear Colleague,
You may have heard this conversation, but we strongly suggest that you listen again. Recorded just before the 2016 election, Koenigsberg, Bloom and Dougatz were prescient, predicting what was about to happen and what did happen.
They sensed Donald Trump's dream of being an authoritarian, perhaps even totalitarian leader. The title appearing above is the exact title of the Newsletter that appeared in the November, 2016 issue of this Newsletter. Not a word changed.
Trump's chaotic thought processes were there at the beginning. The public's fascination with his persona and words were there from the start. Bloom and Dougatz state in the conversation that they had become addicted to Trump, waiting for his next pronouncement. They couldn't turn away from the television set (I can and do).
he addictive quality of Trump's personality and words has persisted. There is no longer THE NEWS, but TRUMP NEWS.
But what is in Trump's mind? Does he believe his words? Is he suffering from dementia? Is he borderline psychotic? Is he a performer good at free association? Or is he a jive-ass motherfucker who knows what he is doing? Or all of the above?
As usual, insightful commentary remains absent. Koenigsberg's question is the same as it has been always: Why is psychology and psychoanalysis absent from the public realm?
Please listen to the interview and convey your own insights to me rakoenigsberg@libraryofsocialscience.com.
We'll publish the best observations.
Richard Koenigsberg
