INFIDELS AND ENEMIES

Richard Koenigsberg

If the essence of warfare and of Islamic terrorism are captured in the two statements appearing below, it is evident that we are dealing with a single dynamic. In each case, the omnipotent object (Germany or Allah) is kept alive by virtue of feeding these objects with the blood of human beings.

The death wish, as some psychoanalysts call it, is not a "biological drive," but always is connected to a cultural object. One wishes to die oneself (or wants the other to die) in order to demonstrate one's devotion to a sacred object.

Infidels or enemies, according to my theory, play an identical role: they are classes of human beings whose existence NEGATES the sacred object. These human beings stand as an affront to the object which one's own group worships.

WAR: An Endless Stream of Blood

The essence of warfare--and of Nazi Ideology--appears in the following statement by Rudolf Hess, Deputy Fuehrer of the Nazi Party:

The stream of blood which for Germany is eternal—the sacrifice of German men for their Volk is eternal—therefore Germany will also be eternal.
ISLAMIC TERRORISM: An Endless Stream of Blood

The essence of terrorism--and of the ideology of HAMAS--appears in the following statement:

The stream of blood which for Allah is eternal—the sacrifice of human beings for Allah is eternal—therefore we too also shall be eternal.

“A theory is the more impressive the greater the simplicity of its premises, the more different kinds of things it relates, and the more extended its area of applicability.” Albert Einstein
