THE SOLDIER DIES SO THAT HIS NATION MIGHT LIVE
Richard Koenigsberg

When a soldier dies in battle, nations often build memorials honoring these soldiers who have "given their lives" for their country.

These
memorials function to prove the existence and power of the nation-state; perform a "validation" function.

Of course, we already know this, but don't put it so bluntly--when we honor the death of the soldier by saying, "He died so that his nation might live."
