Death as the Creation of Reality
The Law of Sacrifice
Richard A. Koenigsberg

Human beings die and kill in the name of truth--in order to prove the reality of an idea or ideal. The nature of the idea or ideal or entity in the name of which human beings have died and killed is fungible. Among these are

  • France
  • Germany
  • The British Empire
  • The (Japanese) Emperor
  • Allah
  • Freedom and democracy
  • A Tamil homeland
  • A more perfect union

The mechanism is identical, regardless of the nature of the idea: death and memorials erected in the name of those who have died—testify to the truth or reality of an entity or ideal. Death and memorialization perform or constitute a validation function.

It's difficult to conceive that the dying could have occurred for nothing (no-thing). The crosses below, not unlike those erected at the conclusion (or in the middle) of hundreds of wars, constitute verification. The proof of the pudding is in the dying and in the memory of those who have died.

These crosses symbolizing soldiers who have "given their lives" for a sacred entity.

We may put forth the hypothesis that the purpose of war is to erect these crosses, testifying to the existence of "something else" beyond mere human existence.
