SEPARATION FROM THE NATION AND PERSONAL DISINTEGRATION
To separate from the nation for Hitler was to separate from the object with which he was fused, which meant loss of self and disintegration--since he was separating from an object with which his ego was identified absolutely. If one separates from the nation, one disintegrates because the omnipotent bond or symbiotic illusion has been shattered. One becomes a "man without a country" with no solid geographic territory to provide a base for identity. One becomes a "wanderer" with no anchor in reality. What disintegrates is fusion with the object, and therefore the ego.
