DEATH CREATES IDEOLOGIES
Richard Koenigsberg

Ideologies become real to the extent that people die for them. Any deaths will do--deaths of the enemy, death of one’s own soldiers, deaths of citizens.

Crosses are erected to testify to the depth of devotion. The erection of crosses is the independent variable (the cause), death in war the dependent variable. The purpose of death in war is to erect crosses, testifying to the reality of a sacred ideal.
