FOUNDATION FOR THE STUDY OF POLITICAL PSYCHOPATHOLOGY
Andrew Hammer, Executive Director
Presents: Howard Bloom
Every culture is a psychosis. Each culture's perceptual lens is shaped by a delusional vision of good and evil and of the powers around and within us.
Just look at one of the cultures I cite often--the Inca. Why did the Inca emperor have to mount a pyramid and extract blood from his penis? To keep the cosmos going. To ensure that the sun would be reborn in blood every morning. That's a psychotic delusion. A perceptual lens.
Why did the emperor of China have to sleep with his concubines in a predetermined pattern? To connect the heavens with the earth. Another psychotic delusion; another perceptual lens.
And why do Muslims have to prostrate themselves to mecca five times a day. Not as individuals. In groups. Because god is an angry father to whom all believers are slaves. Another psychotic delusion. Another perceptual lens.
But each of these cultures have something in common. All validate the stature of the leader and might of the group by sacrifice. Each proves their power by shedding blood. And prove their permanence with the throwaway of the most expensive surplus of all--human lives.
