A nation or body politic is a double of the self; symbol of one's own body. One's actual body is projected into and equated with a national body.

"Illegal immigrants" may be experienced as not-self (not-self cells) penetrating into this national body, violating porous boundaries, contaminating the pure American body, generating hysterical or paranoid rage within some individuals, even ff these individuals are living thousands of miles from the border.

Freud's theory of paranoia: the other is imagined to be creeping into one's anus. The Southwest of the United States is open space, a gigantic hole in the body politic--and Mexicans (and other alien cells) are imagined to be creeping in, generating paranoid rage.
