In radical forms of nationalism, a body politic becomes a substitute for actual human bodies. One's actual body develops a submissive stance in relationship to this projection of an omnipotent body.

Totalitarianism occurs when the symbolic body takes control over human bodies. These human beings are no longer citizens--but now slaves to the phantasy that they have created and embraced.
