We live within what used to be called the "specious present:" Endless hysteria. What Murray the K. used to call "what's happening now baby."
I focus on warfare and other forms of collective violence. Historians write about this war and that war, producing endless details. We call the documentation of specific wars "history books," as if each war is unique phenomenon.
Mass hysteria governs war, but also the coverage of warfare in the "news." It's as each war is "new."
Mass-hysteria is the norm of the Internet. Endless hysteria. What is happening one day, and then what is happening the next day. As if each event is unique, rather than the endless enactment of certain template.
I focus on the central principles that generate warfare, terrorism and other forms of collective hysteria.
Each war has "causes" generating the event. But these events or causes are generated by fundamental temples, revealing the meaning of warfare.
(1) The purpose of warfare is the production of death, functioning as a principle of verification. That for which people die becomes true. Human beings die for sacred ideals. The death of our own people and death of the enemy count equally. The First World War, for example, was endless death. Each death contributed to the belief in "nations." Warfare and nations go together. "You can't have one without the other."
(2) I've posited the "Law of Sacrifice," the basic principle governing warfare. To become true, people die for the idea in they believe. That for which we die becomes true.
(3) MEMORIALS are created to remember those who have died. We remember wars. We wage war to create memorials to the dead. We create wars so that we may remember them. The proof of the pudding is in the dying. This is what I call WAR AS A PRINCIPLE OF VERIFICATION.
